MINAB Revised Constitution

Dear All,

Ramadhan Mubarak and we request that you remember us in your prayers as we do for you on this holy and blessed nights of Ramadhan.

As you are aware the consultation period of MINAB's Draft Constitution and Standards has now passed and we have a tremendous response from both Shias and Sunnis and at the various roadshows organised throughout the United Kingdom. The MINAB Steering Committee has taken on board all the feedbacks received from institutions, individuals as well as the roadshows and has fully considered all the matters raised therein.

I am pleased to inform you that we have now received the draft Revised Constitution, which will be inshallah be tabled at the Constitutional Conference planned for early 2009 for adoption. I would humbly request that you study the draft Revised Constitution prior to the Conference and I would like to highlight a few areas only:

1. The constitution has now categorically stated that it will be non-sectarian and will not engage in theological issues.

2. The number of years the Founding members has been reduced considerably.

3. The Shias have been guaranteed 20% perpetually to ensure that the minorities are protected, which in addition gives 20% to Women as well.

There are a number of changes in the documents, and I have highlighted some of the important ones for your perusal.

I thank you for your engagement in the process thus far and request that we continue our working relationship with all the parties to make MINAB a strong and representative body.

With Salaams & Duas,
Munawer Rattansey
President The Council of European Jamaats
